Pranab Mukherjee on rising prices
Union Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee said that rising food prices in India, with inflation at 7.55 per cent in the month of May, can be addressed by ensuring supply rather than monetary tightening measures. At the Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India (ASSOCAM) conference in Mumbai, Mukherjee said food inflation had not been controlled because the demand for vegetables, fruits, milk and eggs had increased.
