Michael Phelps surpassed the all-time record of 18 Olympic medals when he anchored the United States relay team to victory in the 4x200-metre freestyle relay in London. Phelps now has 15 golds, two silvers and two bronze medals, beating Soviet gymnast Larisa Latynina's tally achieved from 1956 to 1964 of nine golds, five silvers and four bronze medals.
