Army step up relief efforts in Assam
Indian Army soldiers evacuated flood-affected villagers and set up relief camps in Sonitpur district of Assam, which has been struck by one of the worst disasters after heavy downpour. At least 77 people have been killed and nearly two million affected by heavy monsoon rains that caused floods in Assam. Authorities have given shelter, food and medicines to thousands of homeless people, and deployed mobile medical teams to prevent the outbreak of disease.
